Draw Near: The Power of Seeking God in Prayer

"Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you."
— James 4:8 (ESV)

Have you ever felt like God was far away? Like your prayers were bouncing off the ceiling and no one was listening? You are not alone. Every believer, at some point, has stood in that quiet, uncertain place — wondering if God still hears.

But here is the truth that changes everything: God is never the one who moves away. He is always near, always listening, always waiting. It is we who drift — caught up in the noise of life, the weight of worry, or the busyness of our days.

Prayer is not just a religious routine. It is an invitation to relationship. When you come to God honestly — not with perfect words, but with an open heart — something shifts. You are not just speaking into the air. You are stepping into the presence of the One who created you, knows you fully, and loves you completely.

Seeking God doesn't require a special location or a lengthy speech. It begins with one simple, sincere step toward Him. A whispered "Lord, I need you" in the morning. A quiet moment of stillness before the day takes over. A thankful heart before a meal. Each small act of seeking is a step that draws you closer to Him.

And His promise is sure — draw near, and He will draw near to you.

Questions for Your Heart

  1. What distracts you most from spending time in prayer?
  2. What is one simple way you can seek God more intentionally this week?

Lord, teach me to seek You above all else. When life gets loud and my heart grows distracted, draw me back to Your presence. Remind me that You are always near, and that nothing compares to time spent with You. Amen.
